Japan Tours for Seniors with Mobility Issues

Japan is a wonderful destination for older travellers, but it can also be physically demanding. Railway stations are large, popular attractions may involve considerable walking, and some historic temples and gardens have stairs, slopes and uneven surfaces. For seniors with mobility issues, choosing the right tour operator can make a significant difference.

Laurus Travel has been organizing tours to Japan and other Asian destinations for many years, and seniors make up a large percentage of our clientele. We understand that older travellers may need a slower pace, more rest stops and extra assistance along the way. Some guests travel with canes or walkers, while others simply cannot walk as quickly or as far as they once could.

Japan Tours for Seniors with Mobility Issues – Customized Solutions

Although our standard Japan group tours are not suitable for seniors with mobility issues, we have been offering customized private Japan tours to such travellers. Once in a while, we are able to sign up enough seniors with physical challenges to form a group of 10 to 20. In such cases, group rates would apply to all the booked services, allowing the participants to save lots of money.

Our small-group format makes it easier for our guides to pay attention to individual needs. Whenever practical, we arrange convenient coach access, elevators and other alternatives that reduce unnecessary walking. Our guides are also there to assist when unexpected difficulties arise.

Japan Tours for Seniors with Mobility Issues – Important to Know

despite our effort, it is important for the traveller to be aware that Japan is not completely barrier-free. Some attractions cannot accommodate wheelchairs or travellers with serious mobility limitations. We therefore encourage guests to discuss their physical needs with us before booking. This allows us to explain honestly if a proposed itinerary is actually suitable for them.

For seniors who need greater flexibility, a private Japan tour definitely is a better choice. The itinerary can be adjusted to provide shorter sightseeing days, more vehicle transfers and additional rest time.

Customer Reviews & Testimonials

Google review by Gladys L:

“As seniors with medical conditions, we cannot handle long tour days in a group, so we asked the staff at Laurus Travel to arrange a private driver and guide for our customized trip to Japan.. The driver/guide, Shin, was very knowledgeable and communicative about information on all the places we visited, sharing the history, importance and difference between Buddhism and Shintoism. He was thoughtful and considerate with our limitations, customizing the schedule to suit our needs. He had umbrellas for rainy days and a portable folding stool in case we needed to rest where there was no resting place. As we boarded the boat to cross the lake at Hakone, he told us to look for seats marked for disabled people. I am grateful that Laurus Travel staff found us such a respectful, knowledgeable driver and guide which made our trip not only comfortable, but successful.”
